5 Friends That Define your Success

5 Friends That Define your Success

by | Oct 31, 2018 | Mannix Motivation

This week’s vlog is all about peers. I read an interesting quote this morning from Rumi. It says, “set yourself alight and then surround yourself with people that fan your flames.”

So the question is, who’s fanning your flames and making you better? And who’s throwing buckets of water or doing even worse things to your flames? The reality is, our lives are the average of the five people we spend most of our time with. And remember that those five people—you don’t have to be physically spending time with them. You could actually just be listening to them over the phone, or over the internet, or on TV—any medium. The bottom line is, you need to surround yourself with people that are better than you, and that really motivate you and support you to be the best version of yourself.

So think about it—have you got that friend who is wealthier than you, that’s inspiring you to do more financially? Have you got the friend that’s healthier than you? The person that’s pushing you to get more out of yourself physically. Have you got the person with better relationships than you, that really sets you on a better course in terms of relationships with your family, with your friends and with your spouse or partner? Because the bottom line is, we can’t help but take cues from those that we surround ourselves with, and so it’s incredibly important that we’re consistently surrounding ourselves with people that are better than us, that support us and that want to make us want to be more.

So, have a think about that. Who are the five people in your life at the moment that are really defining your reality, and who you maybe need to spend some more time with? Now, for me, I’ve got one group inside those five that is virtual. I don’t really know them, but they’re people I listen to, I read, I think about and I engage with nearly every single day of my life because I know that I don’t actually have to be around physically with someone, or even know them, to have them make an impact on my life. So I hope I’m having an impact on yours! Remember, your peers are very important. Don’t ignore that, and do something about that this week.
